With the imminent trade of Bol Bol to the Detroit Pistons, another opportunity has also developed to add much needed height. Tacko Fall, who stands 7-foot-6, was recently released by center-overloaded Cleveland. He and Bol Bol could give Detroit a ‘Twin Towers’ to intimidate the opposition.

One of the few positives of having a bad record is that you are high up in the Waiver Wire. When a team places someone on waivers, if multiple teams put in a claim, whichever team has the worst record at the time, is awarded the player.

This prime position could come into play due to news that recently broke::

Fall is tall, really tall, and Detroit is really small. So this might be a good match.

WIth forward/center Kelly Olynyk still out, even though the six week original diagnosis has passed, Detroit had had to go with 6-9 Isaiah Stewart, 6-9 vet Trey Lyles and 6-10 rookie Luka Garza at center.

This has caused problems defensively for the Pistons. Stewart is active  but not tall and foul prone. Neither Garza nor Lyles are known for their defense. Having no rim-protector or space eater in the middle has allowed the lane to be wide open for opponents.

It is one of the reasons Detroit is 29th overall in defense. The potential trade of power forward Jerami Grant, their best defensive player, would make the post defense situation even worse.

Detroit general manager Troy Weaver can see the ‘doughnut hole’ defense as well as the fans.

His first move was to trade for 7-foot-2 Bol Bol from the Denver Nuggets for basically a bag of basketballs.

Next, Weaver should  put in a claim and grab Tacko Fall.

Three reasons the Detroit Pistons should add Tacko Fall

3. Even though Bol Bol is very tall, due to his slender frame, he is really a power forward. That means the Pistons could still could use a tall center. Can’t get taller than Fall. You could have a ‘Block out the Sun’ defense by playing both Fall and Bol, average height 7-4, together. No one would try a lob pass on Detroit, that is for sure.

2. Fall has been a fan favorite wherever he has gone. He had a cult following  in Boston. Pistons fans might remember a December, 2019 game where the Celtics fans chanted his name and demanded he be put in. He would quickly become a fan favorite at Little Caesars Arena.  When you are not winning too much, a team needs some likable players to root for.

1 . Fall just turned 26-years-old and is still learning the game, having grown up in Senegal. Detroit has taken a lot of chances on players since Weaver took over who are low-risk and possible high reward. Fall is definitely in that category. He has been a two-way player, so his cap charge will be small, most helpful this year.

Taking a chance on Fall would be a win-win for the Pistons. He fills a need and, well, what is the downside to signing Fall? The Pistons will lose even more games?  Doubt that.
