Let’s hear from Brian Windhorst on Grant to Lakers. Why not?
ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst usually has interesting insights to say about the league. Right before New Year’s, on a podcast with former Nets executive Bobby Marks, he took a crack at a workable Lakers-Pistons trade.
(report courtesy Lakers Daily)
"“Here’s an example of an option, Bobby,” Windhorst said. “So, the Lakers have been rumored to have interest in Jerami Grant, and I think that the Pistons, who are in the middle of a rebuild and not going anywhere this season…I think they might listen on Jerami Grant. “So, if you could get a player like Jerami Grant, now that would take probably [Talen] Horton-Tucker and maybe that ’27 first and maybe Kendrick Nunn to make the money work. Is that the type of trade, Bobby, that you would consider if you were the Lakers because that’s a guy who could help you more?”"
Windhorst kind of shoots down the middle from the Clutch Points and Lakers Nation trades.
My analysis: Marks, on the podcast, says he would make that deal, if he were the Lakers. I agree with that. But would the Pistons?
Maybe?
It all depends on what they think THT’s upside is. He is shooting 40-percent from the field and a horrific 24.8% from three-point land. Would they see Nunn as a future piece when Detroit makes a move for the playoffs? What would you do with Killian Hayes if you add Nunn?
The Pistons have few draft assets. The Lakers pick would not convey for five years, but, at least, it is a first-rounder to stockpile or use as a trade chip.
The Lakers really need Grant to hope to get into even the conversation of winning the Western Conference. But is what they can offer something Troy Weaver would want? And would he get better offers, there are a lot of desperate teams out there.
In the end, the Lakers can not knock the Pistons socks off with a massive offer. But that won’t stop the churning of more ‘Grant to Lakers’ stories from the media and fans posting about it. Enjoy the fun Pistons fans.
