Here are a couple of projections, based on past deals, of Kelly Olynyk’s worth in a trade:

Remember, Detroit will have no interest in an older player, they like Olynyk. If they wanted a veteran, they would just keep him. Draft picks, well, they could use some more of them.

Here are some possible trade options for dealing Olynyk:

  • A future, top 10 protected, first round pick could probably convince GM Troy Weaver to give you Olynyk.
  • A heavily protected first-rounder and a couple of second-rounders.
  • A player highly drafted but still looking to find himself (Marvin Bagley III, Kevin Knox?)
  • NOT Ben Simmons (Pistons tried that already)
  • A package that could include Cory Joseph that might also get a future first-rounder that is lightly protected.

In a league starved for mobile, smart flexible position players who can hit a three, Olynyk suddenly becomes more attractive to other NBA teams. Now that Olynyk has proven he is healthy (really healthy!), that will only increase his value.

Next. Wasn’t Pistons offer to 76ers really an overpay for Ben Simmons?. dark

While all the speculation on the trade front has involved Jerami Grant, general manager Troy Weaver should also be fielding calls on Olynyk if he continues this high level of play.
