Big man options for the Detroit Pistons in trades or free agency

The change of scenery guys

Marvin Bagley III and Jalen Smith

Both of these players have underperformed after being high draft picks and have found themselves in and out of their team’s rotations.

The talent is there but neither have really been able to put it all together consistently, so may need a change of scenery and some new teammates to figure it out.

Bagley III is still just 22-years-old but has some red flags when it comes to attitude. He would be a guy to take a flyer on for the rest of the season, as the Pistons can probably get him for cheap and he’ll be a free agent when the season ends.

Bagley is a guy who is probably going to have to take a big pay cut to stay in an NBA rotation, as he didn’t play up to his last contract and will have to prove he has another level. It might be worth it for the Pistons to trade for him and then sign him to a lowball deal to see if that happens, which they tried with some success with Josh Jackson.

Jalen Smith is a guy I wrote about as an interesting possibility for Detroit, as he put together some nice games in extended run for the Suns when Deandre Ayton was out.

He’s another guy who will be a free agent, so the Pistons could just wait, but if they wanted to try him out, I’m sure he’s available and could be had for cheap before the deadline.

Neither of these guys really move the needle for me, though their talent and cost is intriguing enough to at least consider.
