Detroit Pistons: Jerami Grant trade to the Sacramento Kings

I am not sure this offer would really move the Pistons, but there are some things to like about it.

They get to take a flyer on Marvin Bagley III, and if they like what they see, they can probably sign him for a low-ball deal while he tries to repair his reputation and value. It could be a decent low risk/high reward type move, and though I am not high on Bagley (why are Pistons’ fans obsessed with this guy?) I can see the argument, as the Pistons need size.

Davion Mitchell is the most interesting piece of this to me, as he projects as the type of player who would fit well with Cade Cunningham.

Mitchell is a combo guard who is a very good on-the-ball defender, is tough and has a winning history, which the Pistons would like.

He hasn’t shot the ball particularly well this season, but did shoot the 3-point shot well in college and has shown flashes. He doesn’t have ideal size and I am not sure he is good enough to play primarily off the ball, which he would have to do.

The first-round pick would give the Pistons two in this 2022 NBA draft and open up more trade possibilities for the future, but this draft doesn’t appear to be deep with star talent, so a pick in that range may not be all that appealing to Detroit.

Personally, I think there are too many unknowns in this package, as Mitchell is unproven, Bagley has never been good and the pick could end up being outside of the lottery if the Kings were to string together some wins.

It’s not a terrible offer, but I think the Detroit Pistons can do better, or just keep Grant, as at least they know what they are getting.
