So what can Detroit do to be, if not top 10, at least move up to the middle of the pack?

Here are a few things to improve the defense, in no particular order, as all must be done to get the ‘D’ going:

  • Stop getting hurt and contracting COVID-19: The best ability is availability. The players simply need to play together for a decent stretch of time. If the lineup is constantly shifting, the defense will never get its act together.
  • Do not trade Jerami Grant: He was signed to a three-year, $60 million deal by Detroit coming off a great defensive performance against Anthony Davis and LeBron James in the Western Conference finals. He was also chosen for the USA Olympic team for his defense. He is the one shut-down defender Detroit has.
  • Make more shots: It is really simply, missed shots lead many times to the other team getting on the fast break for easy buckets. When the Pistons get into an offensive funk, the ball is clanging off the rim and it snowballs into a lot of high-percentage shots for the opposition. More makes force the other team to walk the ball up, a lot easier to stop.

Next. Ole! Why aren’t Detroit Pistons better defensively?. dark

Many of the losses in close games are caused by the Pistons inability to shut down the other team. With a healthy crew, one hopes the defense will come together, and maybe they can be a top 10 defensive team.
