Mitchell Robinson will be an unrestricted free agent

Robinson will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so if the Detroit Pistons want him, they can get him then.

I don’t think Mitchell would cost a haul in a trade given his production and contract status, but he would at least cost them an expiring deal and probably a second-round pick or two.

That’s not a steep price, but it’s steeper than nothing, which is what the Pistons will have to give up if they just wait 30 more games.

If Robinson was going to be a restricted free agent it would make more sense, as the Pistons would gain more of an inside track to re-signing him since they could offer an extra year and more money.

But since they can’t, they might as well wait and try to lure him in free agency, which may not be that hard considering they now have rookie Cade Cunningham as a selling point to potential free agents.

The Pistons will also have more cap space than just about any team, so they can get Robinson if they want him and they don’t have to give up any assets other than money.
