There are some fans of the Detroit Pistons who did not like the way Troy Weaver handled the trade deadline, but Cade Cunningham still has confidence in his GM.

Weaver didn’t trade Jerami Grant, which some fans don’t understand, as they feel his value was at its peak and he may not be a fit with Cunningham.

I think Grant’s value will be just as high or higher in the offseason, so I don’t see keeping him as a catastrophic turn of events, and if he is willing to adjust his game, I could see him with the Pistons long term.

Opinions tend to run to the extremes with Weaver, as some fans think he’s a flawless genius while others think he is ruining the team. The reality, as usual, is somewhere in the meaty grey area, as Weaver has made some quantifiably great moves, but also has a few head scratchers on his resume.

All GM’s do, so I have to side with Cade Cunningham here.

Cade Cunningham on the Detroit Pistons and Troy Weaver

Cade Cunningham recently gave an interview with Yahoo Sports in which he talked about the state of the Pistons, their future and GM Troy Weaver.

Cunningham expressed a lot of confidence and faith in Weaver, who was long known as a top talent evaluator in the NBA before being hired as the Pistons GM:

"“With Troy Weaver, we’ve got a big time GM… I put a lot of faith in him and I trust that whatever his plans are, it will be best for the team.”"

It has undoubtedly been a tough year for the young Pistons, as many thought they would be good this season or at least take the next logical step in their move towards sustained success.

They haven’t, and some fans have turned on Troy Weaver, which is to be expected when they are subjected to a third straight year of awful basketball with no end in sight.

But like Cunningham, I think Weaver’s vision is starting to take shape. He’s gotten all of the bad money off the books, found a star to build around, has some nice role players, a ton of future cap space and hopefully another top-5 draft pick coming.

The Pistons have some of the pieces teams need to be good, so hopefully those days are coming sooner rather than later.

Cade Cunningham has faith in his GM, and I think there is good reason to, as the Pistons are in a better spot than they were when he took over, even if it hasn’t translated into wins.
