Detroit Pistons: Chemistry and Cohesiveness

One thing all Pistons fans should be looking for is the player’s connecting on the court.

On both offense and defense, building trust and playing together is key, whether you’re the worst team in the league or the Phoenix Suns.

The Pistons need to show their fan base they are figuring things out on the floor. This has been a rough season, and fans haven’t seen the growth they would’ve liked to see. Finishing strong as a collective unit will show some good signs after this tumultuous year.

They should be on a string defensively, after almost 60 games, and the young players should better understand schemes. Small things, like rotating properly and helping the helper should be visible at this juncture. This team has high IQ guy’s, they should be showing signs of turning the corner defensively down the stretch.

There are a lot of players who, individually, are seen as good defensive players. However, recently we’ve seen too many 70 point halftime scores posted against them. Playing hard nose defense is the calling card of the Detroit Pistons, and any restoration or rebuild should be looking to bring back that tough intensity.

Offensively sharing the basketball and building chemistry will be essential.

Cunningham  is the driving force and facilitator so his need to find chemistry down the stretch with player’s like Bagley lll, Bey, and Jerami Grant will be ongoing. The latter two mentioned are core guys, Bagley lll will look to, hopefully, become one moving forward. His position is in high demand here in Detroit, with them lacking size inside. Bagley showing he can mesh with Cade and develop a solid two-man game could make him more likely to be resigned this offseason.

The Pistons are still working out chemistry issues with Cunningham, Bey, and Grant due to players missing time. Seeing the progression in this area will likely tell the story on whether Grant is traded this offseason.

If they can figure things out, Grant could be extended instead getting traded. If it’s proven Cunningham and Grant don’t mesh, which we do not know yet, trading him during the offseason seems inevitable.
