Pistons vs Celtics Prediction

What do you call a movable object vs an unstoppable force? You call it the Pistons vs the Celtics tonight. Detroit has lost eight straight and only covered the spread once over those games while Boston has won nine straight and just obliterated the 76ers by 48 points last night. The Pistons did keep it fairly close against Boston two weeks ago, losing by just 9 to a Celtics team favored by 10, but now they have to go on the road to try and do it again.

It’s almost comical how hot the Celtics are right now. Over their last 15 games, they lead the NBA with a net rating of 17.6. To put into context how goofy that is, the highest single-season net rating of the last five years was the 2019-2020 Bucks with 9.4. The best of all-time is 13.6 from the 2000-2001 Lakers with Shaq and Kobe. Yeesh.

So how do the Pistons rank in their last 15 games? Funny you asked. They’re second-to-last last at -11.3. So yeah, we’ve got a team playing twice as good as anyone has in the last five years against a team playing as bad as anyone.

I’d like to say that Boston is at a disadvantage here playing in back-to-back days, but they beat the 76ers so soundly that no starters played in the 4th quarter. They’ll be rested enough to handle the Pistons, though hopefully it won’t quite be by 48 points like Philly.

The Celtics’ defense has been obscene and only allowed over 100 points twice in their last 11 games. That’s bad news for a Pistons offense that is 29th in offensive rating on the season. Detroit may not crack 90 in this one.

Sometimes it’s as easy as it sounds. Give me Boston -12.5 (-110) to get to ten straight wins, but I’m also taking the under 215 (-110) here. The under is 11-4 in the Celtics’ last 15 and 14-0 since January 1st in games with a total at 215 or higher.
