The Detroit Pistons had three players in the NBA Rising Stars games and all three played well in the new format.

I was hoping the changes in the Rising Stars would make it better and they did, as the games were more competitive and interesting to watch.

Cade Cunningham led Team Barry to the Finals and eventually won the MVP after narrowly defeating Team Isiah, which had the other two Pistons.

In the past the Rising Stars game was just a lot of dunking and failed lob attempts, but these games were competitive right away and all three Pistons were at the heart of it.

Here are the grades for their performances in the NBA Rising Stars.

Grades for the Pistons Rising Stars

Isaiah Stewart: B

Beef Stew played well in the semi-final game, scoring 10 points and adding six rebounds in the win. In the final game Stewart played most of his minutes with Precious Achiuwa, which was interesting. He didn’t any touches in the final game, didn’t score but did have four rebounds. It was a solid night for Stewart, who has quietly been very solid lately.

Saddiq Bey: A

If Team Isiah had managed to win the Final game, Bey might have been MVP instead of Cade Cunningham. He carried his team offensively in the first game, scoring 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Bey also had a key block on Jalen Green to keep the score close before his team eventually got the win.

I love that Bey took it seriously and he continues to show he’s one of the guys the Pistons need to build around.

He didn’t do as well in the final game, scoring just five points, but Bey looked like one of the best players on the court last night, which you love to see if you are a Pistons fan.

Cade Cunningham: A

This was a nice night for Cade, who has had a solid rookie season derailed by unfortunate injuries. He led his team to the championship by doing a little bit of everything, which is hopefully a sign of things to come for the Pistons.

He scored 18 points overall and added 9 assists, hitting the key 3-pointer in the final and then assisting on the play that led to the win on a Franz Wagner free throw.

Cade took home the MVP and reminded everyone why he was the number one pick. His ability to score and make everyone around him better is going to be exciting once the Pistons have more talent.

They have a good start with Bey and Stewart and all three Pistons showed why fans have reason to be hopeful for the future.
