Detroit Pistons: 3 low cost free agents who will outperform their deals
The Detroit Pistons and General Manager Troy Weaver will be busy figuring out what to do with the substantial amount of cap space they will have this off-season.
They have approximately 30 million dollars in cap space at their disposal when free agency arrives. That puts them atop the league before exploring club options on players. Troy Weaver could look to spread the money around, adding solid players, instead of looking to add a max player.
If that’s the case, I have narrowed down a list of potential candidates, including three players who could blossom in the Motor City without breaking the bank. These guys won’t demand a lot of money and could bring high value outplaying their contracts long term.
They will provide productivity in areas the Pistons will look to improve on the following season. This list doesn’t consider the upcoming draft prospects. This is all about free agents who could provide some bang for the buck next year.
There are rim running bigs and perimeter sharpshooters who’ll be available at a discount. The Detroit Pistons could upgrade talent and save money by shopping for their biggest needs instead of the biggest names.
Maintaining flexibility in this restoration is going to be key as the organization looks to get out of the doldrums. Overpaying a young player would jeopardize that flexibility and wouldn’t make sense if it doesn’t move the needle. These players were selected based off team needs. Other dynamics played a role in the selection too, things like unrestricted and restricted free agency.
