Detroit Pistons free agent options: Javale McGee Unrestricted

Javale McGee is a seasoned veteran who can fit in any system and contribute. Currently averaging 9.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and a block in limited minutes(16 mpg) for the Phoenix Suns. He’s a low maintenance big who understands his role. If you lack shot blocking, a lob threat, or a big who can run the floor he’s your man. The Detroit Pistons could use all of those attributes, especially next year as the franchise looks to turn the corner.

McGee has come a long way from his early days in the league. The Flint native has become a valuable big, playing on contenders year in year out. He’s a three time champion who has played with all types of high octane talents such as Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Lebron James, and Steph Curry just to name a few. McGee would fit right in and play well off of Cade. His mobility and athleticism allow him to help on guards while still getting back to challenge shots. On offense he’s a viable lob threat in pick and roll, and can clean up the glass effortlessly.

These are just some of the reasons he’s been highly coveted by teams looking to compete in June. His production doesn’t jump off the stat sheet, he just does a lot of things that help his team win. That’s something the Detroit Pistons should be looking to add. I know the Pistons have been rumored to pursue a big, so why not a cheap one who’ll be an asset?

He may not be the first option as a big on the Pistons radar. There’s several options available some younger and would fit the time line better, but none have the experience of Javale. With this young Detroit Pistons team they’ll need that type of big. Cade is the featured player and a veteran who knows his role won’t hurt the development long term.
