Detroit Pistons and Cade Cunningham: Dominating the paint

Another thing that stood out last night was that the Pistons were trying consistently to get to the rim and not settling for 3-point shots.

Cade Cunningham only took two from long range (a theme of late) and Detroit only attempted 33 as a team, while Altanta took 44, hitting just 14 of them.

The Pistons controlled the boards all night, especially on the defensive end, which helped them close out possessions and get out and run.

They won the rebounding battle 54-40 and were able to get 17 fast break points while the Hawks only tallied three.

Detroit outscored Atlanta 54-40 in the paint, as the Pistons spent the night working to get closer to the rim and running the floor hard on the break.

Isaiah Stewart had three runout dunks in the first half alone, as he was continually beating Clint Capela down the floor after challenging shots on the perimeter.

Outside of Marvin Bagley III and occasionally Cade Cunningham, the Pistons don’t have much of a low post game, but they can make up for it by running hard in transition and allowing their bigs to get to their spots early in the possession as they did last night.
