Detroit Pistons,
Detroit Pistons,

The Detroit Pistons have just three games remaining in the 2021-22 season and fans have plenty of questions.

Last week’s mailbag focused on dream scenarios for the Detroit Pistons but this week we’ll get more into the nitty gritty of reality.

Pistons’ Twitter had some outstanding questions this week, so many that I wasn’t able to get to all of them in this article, so if I didn’t use yours, sorry, it was just a space issue.

Thanks so much for all of the questions, let’s get to them.

Pistons’ Twitter mailbag: Reader questions

Probably the most important decision the Pistons have to make this offseason is what to do with Jerami Grant and I think the solution is easy: They name their price, and if no one meets it, they keep him.

Grant would still have value at the trade deadline next season as an impact player on an expiring contract, but I do think the return would be higher this offseason.

The Pistons will ask for a first-round pick and a young player in exchange for Grant, but I think they’d take just the pick if it were in the lottery.

So my answer is that Detroit will get a 2022 lottery pick for Grant (from Portland most likely) or they will keep him. Portland currently has the 6th and 10th picks. I can’t see them giving up the 6th for Grant, but the 10th? Stay tuned.

What this is really asking is if I think the Pistons will fire Dwane Casey this offseason since he is still under contract for next season and beyond.

The answer is no.

I think Casey has done a great job of what Detroit hired him to do, which was to rebuild this team, develop players and teach them how to be pros.

While he might not be the final answer, he deserves to see this through, and I think he’ll get the chance for at least another season. If the Pistons stink next season, that will be a wrap for Casey.
