Detroit Pistons: Trade for Zion Williamson

If the New Orleans Pelicans really wanted to trade Zion Williamson (they don’t), there would be a line of teams waiting with their offers even though he hasn’t played at all this season.

Given the weakness of this free-agent class and the fact that there isn’t anyone close to Zion in it, I do think the Pistons would at least consider a move for Zion depending on what it would cost.

Here is a trade that works:

The funny thing about this trade proposal is that Pistons’ fans are going to say it is too much, while Pelicans’ fans are going to say it’s not nearly enough.

In this deal, the Pistons send out two young, up-and-coming players that would fit well on the Pels, as well as their top-3 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft (if they were to get lucky and land one).

The Pelicans send back the polarizing Zion, along with all of his enormous talent and baggage, which the Pistons would only do if he were willing to sign an extension right away.

Again, I DO NOT THINK THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, but let’s say this was on the table, who says no?
