Detroit Pistons: 8 possible offseason targets from the Brooklyn Nets
Detroit Pistons: Offseason targets on the Brooklyn Nets
Andre Drummond: Unrestricted free agent
The Detroit Pistons need size, rebounding and rim protection this offseason and if they strike out on a guy like Deandre Ayton, they might go shopping in the bargain bin.
Would a reunion with Andre Drummond make sense? As much as some Pistons’ fans talk trash about the guy, he’s still only 28-years-old and averaged a double-double for Brooklyn this season.
Unlike in the past, Drummond wouldn’t be asked to do anything other than rebound, run the floor and catch lobs on the roll. He is pretty good in the PnR and DHO’s and would work well with Cade Cunningham.
If the Detroit Pistons brought Drummond back on a minimum deal to be the backup, I’d be ok with it, especially if they don’t land one of the top targets and take a guard or wing with their second-round pick.
Bruce Brown: Unrestricted free agents
Another former member of the Detroit Pistons, Brown is a versatile and tough defender who proved himself a valuable role player for the Nets this season. He can defend 1-4, so could slide onto the roster as a defensive specialist off the bench.
He made $4.7 million this season and is likely to get a raise after playing pretty well in the playoffs. It’s going to be hard for the Nets to retain him, but also hard to imagine Detroit investing in a guy they let go for nothing and who doesn’t really fit a glaring need.
Nic Claxton: Restricted free agent
Claxton is a bouncy big who is just 23-years-old and will be restricted free agent. He is on the right timeline, fills a need, shouldn’t be too expensive and still has another level or two to reach. He played well in the playoffs off the bench and is a guy who can affect the game with his shot-blocking and efficiency around the rim. He shot 67 percent from the floor this season, something the Detroit Pistons could use, as none of their bigs (except Marvin Bagley III) are really efficient around the rim. The Nets could match any offer and he’s not a guy the Pistons should splash out big money for, but if the right offer is there and the Nets decide to move on, he’s a name to watch.
