Detroit Pistons: The tradability of each player on the roster
Detroit Pistons: For the right price
The main difference between this level and the previous one is that players listed here should probably not be traded, but if a surprisingly good package is offered, Weaver should pull the trigger. Jerami Grant is definitely a tradeable player, despite being better than any players listed here, but these players are either franchise cornerstones or have too much potential to deal without thinking long and hard.
Marvin Bagley III
Bagley has found new life in the Motor City, but he is still disappointing considering who was drafted after him in 2018. At 23-years-old he is a solid big in the league and might get better, and after making a trade for him halfway through last season he’s worth keeping around for another season (or three) to see just what he can do. However, if the Pistons were to sign MBIII to a team-friendly deal that he outplays, he’s definitely not untouchable in a future trade.
Luka Garza & Isaiah Livers
I’m lumping these two together because they haven’t really seen an NBA court that much. The second-round picks from last season had excellent college careers and both became fan favorites. Their floors and ceilings are both extreme, but it’s far too early to see if they’ll have great careers or not. If a team makes a compelling offer, you have to listen to it. Barring that, Livers should be part of the rotation next season and if the Pistons pick up Garza’s option, he’ll be a project center.
Kelly Olynyk
Olynyk and Bagley make up a decent one-two punch down low from off the Pistons’ bench. Olynyk can move out and shoot more, but he lacks the athletic gifts Bagley has. Olynyk would have value to a contender, but after an injury-riddled season, the return might not be worth it, as he can still play.
Isaiah Stewart
Sorry, Detroit fans. I know he’s probably your second favorite player on the roster, but in his increased role this season he hasn’t really shown much improvement. Is he a solid backup center and power forward? Yes! Is he simply a fun player? Also yes. But sometimes you have to know when to cut your losses. In this case, it would take quite a bit to steal him away, but he is by no means untouchable. If he was the sweetener in a trade for a high draft pick or a fringe All-Star, you make that trade. I’m not convinced any front office would offer that, but if they did then Detroit would have to say bye to Beef Stew.
