Detroit Pistons: NBA Draft trades with the Northwest Division

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have some of the worst contracts in the NBA, as they have Aaron Gordon locked up for four more years (is he even good?) at a high number and the devastating Michael Porter Jr. contract, which might be the most untradable in the NBA when you consider his injury history and that the five year extension hasn’t even kicked in yet.

He’s now missed nearly two full seasons with back injuries and the Nuggets have him locked up until 2026-27, when he’ll be making $39 million.

Add that to the injured Jamal Murray (who also missed the entire season) and the Nuggets are a hot mess outside of back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic.

Try as I might, I couldn’t find a trade with the Nuggets that didn’t involve the Detroit Pistons taking on one of those awful contracts, which is not going to happen.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Why the Timberwolves would do it: Beasley probably isn’t part of Minnesota’s long-term plans and they could use some depth and shooting in the front court. This would allow them to save a little bit of money next season, bolster a position of need and grab the 46th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Why the Pistons would do it: This would give the Pistons an upgrade at shooting guard without having to break the bank or take on any long-term money. Beasley is a very good, high-volume 3-point shooter, which is something the Pistons desperately need.

Olynyk and Beasley both had down years, so it could help them both to start fresh.
