Pistons draft: How Jalen Duren fits in Detroit

In Detroit, Duren could instantly make an impact with his energetic style of play, and would likely find minutes in Dwane Casey’s rotation with his defense. On a roster that needs size, Duren would be a needed addition, and would help instantly wreak havoc and strengthen Detroit’s interior defense. The former Tiger should also instantly affect this side of the ball with his switchability, and incredible length.

Another aspect of the game Duren would likely affect instantly is rebounding. On offense, it’s safe to assume Duren’s energy, timing, and motor will likely create second-chance opportunities for the Pistons, and provide additional support for a team that ranked 25th in rebounding last season. Regardless of how many minutes he plays, Duren’s impact on the boards should be immediate, and could help Cade Cunningham and Detroit’s guards find more transition opportunities as well.

At only eighteen-years-old, Duren is far from a finished product, and has plenty of room for growth in many areas. However, the big man is primed to find success by embracing the role he excelled in at Memphis, and by fitting the archetype of the rim-running, elite rebounding, defensive minded big man that is so coveted around today’s league.

While some parts of his game may require more patience than others, Duren is filled with potential at this stage, and could be well worth the wait in the hands of the right franchise.
