Saddiq Bey of the Detroit Pistons was recently featured in a segment of “Mean Tweets” on the Jimmy Kimmel Show along with a host of NBA players.

If you aren’t familiar with the bit, celebrities read out less than nice Tweets that people have sent to them that usually range from hilarious jokes, to hyperbolic insults.

This segment featured Russell Westbrook (who probably had a lot to choose from), Ja Morant, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, Anthony Edwards, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, former Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond, Dejounte Murray, Jarrett Allen, Scottie Barnes, Zach LaVine, Tyrese Haliburton and Gary Payton, who does look a bit like an old Kanye.

The bit is hilarious, but does underscore how unhinged some basketball fans are, as I am sure these are pretty tame compared to some of the things these guys hear on social media. But most NBA players (except Kevin Durant) realize it is part of the media era we live in and probably don’t pay much attention. You can’t help but laugh at most of these, and you need to have thick skin to play in the NBA.

The Tweet directed at Bey was a not-so-clever (or original) pun but it did get straight to the point.

"“**** you, Saddiq Bey. You **** diq.”"

If you’d like to watch the whole thing, here it is in its entirety. In addition to Saddiq Bey, I thought the Andre Drummond, Jarrett Allen and Scottie Barnes Tweets were particularly funny.

Saddiq took it in stride, saying “That’s a good play on words, I guess.”

In case you are wondering, fans of the Detroit Pistons have already tracked down the perpetrator on Twitter, an alleged Detroit fan called Nicholas, who by the looks of him, couldn’t carry Saddiq’s shoes.

In his defense, we have probably all written things on Twitter that we wouldn’t say without the cloak of anonymity it provides, but you reap what you sow on social media, so feel free to go say hi to Nick (be nice!).

It’s been a relatively quiet offseason for the Detroit Pistons so far, but with the 2022 NBA Draft, free agency and trade season approaching, I am sure there will be plenty more mean Tweets to go around this summer.
