Michigan State’s Marcus Bingham Jr. a Detroit Pistons possibility?
It is no secret that the Detroit Pistons are looking to add more athletic big men to its roster. Grand Rapids native Marcus Bingham Jr. is Michigan State’s all-time leader in blocked shots. Could he be a possibility for the Pistons on draft night?
When the Pistons made the trade in February for center Marvin Bagley III, Detroit general manager Troy Weaver said he had failed to have enough athleticism on the team among the post, and this was his attempt to correct that error.
Here is Weaver on the subject of athletic big men, courtesy Omari Sankofa of the Free Press:
"“We didn’t have enough athleticism up front,” said Weaver. “We needed to address that, and we did. I feel better for the team that we were able to acquire that young man and give us a tool we didn’t have. I think as the year went on, I continued to grow and find my footing. Like the team, it’s a big summer for the front office and myself."
The Pistons could use a rim protecting big man. Their leading shot blocker (who played more than 10 games) last season was Isaiah Stewart at 1.1 block a game.
Michigan State’s Marcus Bingham Jr., could help the Pistons in that department. He is a 7-foot, 230-pound senior with a 7-foot-4 wingspan.
While he had the chance to go back to East Lansing for another season, Bingham opted to turn pro and make himself available for the NBA Draft
.He looked good against Wisconsin in the Big 10 tournament:
Bingham ended his Spartan career on a positive note. He scored 16 points, going 2-for-3 on three-pointers, with 10 rebounds and three blocks, in a second-round loss to Duke in the NCAA Tournament.
