Detroit Pistons: Reasons to gut out the Summer League

Does Buddy Boeheim deserves a two-way contract?

After the first two games of Summer League, some fans were wondering if Buddy Boeheim got a two-way deal because Troy Weaver is friends with his dad.

Boeheim didn’t show much, but then broke out for 18 points in the 3rd game, knocking down 3-of-5 from long range and looking more like a guy who belongs in the association.

He still has a long way to go defensively before he’d be ready for an NBA rotation, but his potential for elite shooting has to intrigue the Detroit Pistons somewhat, as they are seriously lacking in this area.

The Pistons are looking for their own Duncan Robinson, an un-drafted shooter who can hopefully overcome his other weaknesses and thrive in a system where he doesn’t have to do much except let it fly from long range.

I expect we will see a heavy dose of Buddy tonight, as he led Detroit in minutes in the loss to Indiana. Can he be a guy who comes in and changes a game with his shooting?

He will almost certainly start the season in the G-League, but his audition to eventually make the roster at some point starts tonight.
