Detroit Pistons cap space and Collin Sexton

The short answer to the question of whether the Detroit Pistons can afford Collin Sexton is no, they can’t.

According to Spotrac, the Pistons currently have around $6.7 million in available cap space, which is not nearly enough to beat the Cavs’ offer for Sexton.

They wouldn’t be able to sign him outright, but the Pistons could certainly still get him via a sign-and-trade with Cleveland where they sent back a player like Cory Joseph, Kelly Olynyk or even Killian Hayes.

So while it might not be completely straight forward, there would be ways for the Pistons to acquire Collin Sexton if they really wanted him.

He could end up being one of the best value deals in the NBA if he returns to his previous levels of production, as guys who can score 20+ ppg are usually on max deals.

But is he really a fit on the Detroit Pistons?
