Detroit Pistons: 7 team options that will be coming up soon
Detroit Pistons’ team options for 2023-24
Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes
These three options are just around the corner, as the Pistons will only have until October 31st to pick up the team options on Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Killian Hayes.
Bey is an absolute no-brainer, as his option is for just $4.5 million, which is a bargain deal for a quality starter in the NBA. But he has plenty to prove still and could make himself a lot of money on his next contract by getting off to a hot start.
Isaiah Stewart is in the same boat, as he will make just $5.2 million in 2023-24, again, low money for an NBA starter. Even if Stewart were to play a lesser role, he has already proven himself to be a valuable big, so Detroit will definitely be exercising this one.
That leaves Killian Hayes, whose option is for $7.4 million in 2023-24 and is less of a certainty. October will be a huge month for Hayes, who needs to show that he can contribute as a backup point guard.
If he is not playing well, the Pistons may decide to decline that option, as it is not chump change for a guy who isn’t contributing. They could allow Hayes to instead become a restricted free agent and try to re-negotiate, trade him or let him walk.
Hopefully his option will be an easy decision too, as it means he’s playing well, and if I had to guess I’d say the Pistons will end up exercising all of these options in October and then start working on extensions for Bey and Stewart.
