Detroit Pistons: Is the Eastern Conference finally better than the West?

The next tier I will call the “Meh,” level, as these teams won’t be totally terrible, but probably won’t be good either. They are in that unenviable gray area of mediocrity that the Detroit Pistons were in for years, not good enough to contend, but not bad enough to get a chance at a top pick.

Western Conference “Meh” teams

  • Los Angeles Lakers
  • Portland Trail Blazers
  • Sacramento Kings

Eastern Conference “Meh” teams

  • Charlotte Hornets
  • New York Knicks
  • Washington Wizards

If absolutely everything went right for them, then any of these teams could make the playoffs, but they will be distant long shots to win a title and will more likely be fighting for the play-in tournament.

The West probably has the advantage in this tier, as the Lakers and Blazers still have superstars who could carry their teams to the playoffs if they can stay healthy.

So the West owns the gray area for now.
