Detroit Pistons: Is the Eastern Conference finally better than the West?

Each conference has a number of teams that could win a title next season. The fact that there are 10 of them overall shows the parity of the league, as it is as wide open as it has been in some time and there are a lot of teams who can claim to be legitimately after a championship.

Western Conference “Real Contenders”

  • Phoenix Suns
  • Memphis Grizzlies
  • Golden State Warriors
  • Los Angeles Clippers

Eastern Conference “Real Contenders”

  • Miami Heat
  • Boston Celtics
  • Milwaukee Bucks
  • Philadelphia 76ers
  • Brooklyn Nets
  • Cleveland Cavaliers

You could talk me into moving the Nets and Cavs into the “sort of” tier, but each of them will have at least three former All-Stars in their starting fives, so I am putting them here.

I’d argue that any of these 10 teams could win the title next season depending on injuries and trades, but the East clearly has more “real contenders.”

When it comes to which conference is better, I would give the nod to the East, as they have more contenders at the top and fewer bad teams at the bottom. But the West may be deeper overall, as the teams in the middle of the pack are a little better in the West.

You can argue either way, but it looks like the East is finally back to being the powerhouse conference, let’s hope the Detroit Pistons can join this tier soon.
