The long offseason is nearly over, as the Detroit Pistons head into training camp this week, but first they will conduct media day which will allow fans to get an early peek at the team and hear some of their thoughts on the upcoming season.

When is Pistons media day?

Detroit Pistons’ media day is tomorrow, September 26th and will start at 2:00 PM ET. You can find livestream information here if you’d like to watch it.

I live in Ireland so unfortunately will not be attending the event, but I do have some questions for head coach Dwane Casey in case anyone who is attending would like to throw them out there and get some answers.

Let’s start with big picture stuff and then get into some specifics.

How do you balance player development vs. winning games during a rebuild?

Obviously wining is the primary objective for any coach, but when you are tasked with the tough job of coaching during a rebuild there are additional priorities.

For the Pistons, that means player development, as they are one of the youngest teams in the NBA, with a roster populated mostly by rookies and players who have only been in the league for one or two years.

There are times when playing veterans like Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel over rookies like Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren will give Detroit a better chance to win the game, so how do you balance that natural winning instinct of a coach with trying to get these young guys the minutes they need to develop?

And which is the bigger priority going into next season?
