Detroit Pistons need to show they can score

One of the most troubling issues of the preseason is the number of 3-point attempts the Pistons have taken, as they are not a great shooting team even with the additions of Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks (who has yet to play).

Detroit chucked a whopping 90 shots from 3-point range combined in their first two games and made 27 of them, which is…. not good.

The question is why they are shooting so many of them? Detroit needs to start their offense from the inside and move out, not the other way around, and they have the guys who can do it.

We need to see more post ups from Cade Cunningham, more dribble penetration from him and Jaden Ivey. We need to see a few paint plays called for Marvin Bagley III and for the Pistons to run a few more mid-range pick-and-rolls.

If Detroit can establish themselves in the post and mid-range, they’ll get more quality looks from 3-point range and not what we’ve been seeing in the first two games, which is lot of panic shots at the end of the shot clock after Detroit does three dribble hand offs above the arc.

We need to see coach Casey adjust and run plays for the team he has instead of the one he wishes he had.

It would be a positive (even against a horrible Thunder team) to see a more well-balanced, efficient offense with fewer 3-point shots from Detroit, better ball movement and working from the inside out instead of just passing the ball around the perimeter waiting to chuck a contested 3-pointer.
