The Detroit Pistons are winless in their first three preseason games, which ultimately doesn’t matter at all.

What we’ve seen so far hasn’t been inspiring, though you always have to be chanting THIS IS JUST THE PRESEASON because it is, in fact, the preseason.

These games don’t count, and they aren’t necessarily indicative of how a team will play in the regular season because IT’S JUST THE PRESEASON.

When you are a young team trying to establish an identity, the PRESEASON is a time to work on things, start to clean up mistakes and figure out the rotations.

There have been some concerning problems, especially for those of us who don’t want to watch another 20-win season in Detroit, but since it is JUST THE PRESEASON, we can’t be too upset or pessimistic.

That’s why I am calling this piece “It’s only the preseason, but it would be nice…” so there is an automatic disclaimer attached to some things I’d like to see in the final preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Detroit Pistons: It’s only preseason, but it would be nice…

To see Cade Cunningham make some shots

Am I concerned about Cade Cunningham? Nope. He started slowly last season, and ended up just fine. Plus, he seems to be working on getting his teammates involved and it’s JUST THE PRESEASON anyway.

But he has shot 30 percent from the field so far and 20 percent from 3-point range, so it would be nice to hit a few tonight and carry some positivity into the regular season. His playmaking and rebounding have been fine, but Cade was one of the most inefficient players in the NBA last season so it would be nice to see him avoid another slow start.

To see the whole team make some shots

Come to think of it, the whole team could use a dose of made shots heading into the regular season. Only six Pistons have shot over 40 percent in the preseason so far, including Braxton Key (60%), Isaiah Stewart (55%), Marvin Bagley III (54%), Killian Hayes (43%), Isaiah Livers (41%) and Rodney McGruder (41%).

Shot making often seems to be contagious, so let’s hope the whole team starts to get hot and make some shots before the games get real. I don’t care if they win, but how about a 45+ percent shooting night out of the team?
