The Detroit Pistons had fans buzzing after their opening night win over the Orlando Magic.
The two rookies played well in their debuts, Cade Cunningham took over at times and Isaiah Stewart came up big in the clutch.
The Magic are also a very young team, so the schedule gets more difficult over the next nine games, starting tonight on the road against the veteran Knicks, who trounced Detroit in the preseason.
The Knicks are fresh off an overtime loss to the Grizzlies and will be eager to get their first win of the season in front of their home crowd.
It’s a battle of two very different teams and will be a great test for the young Pistons. Can they beat the odds and start the season 2-0?
Here is everything you need to know.
Detroit Pistons vs New York Knicks: Odds, Spread, Over/Under
According to Fanduel, the Pistons are 6.5 point underdogs on the road tonight against the Knicks.
The money lines are set at +225 for Detroit and -275 for New York, so the books clearly like the Knicks at home. The over/under is set at 217.5 points.
That point total seems a big high to me, although the Pistons did go over the same mark in the first game. The Knicks are a better defensive team than Orlando so this should be a relatively low scoring game.
Pistons injury report
The Pistons will still be missing Marvin Bagley III, Alec Burks and Isaiah Livers for tonight’s game in New York. We haven’t heard much about Livers’ hip injury but it is getting somewhat concerning considering his injury and the lack of updates from the team.
That means we are likely to see more of Kevin Knox tonight unless Braxton Key gets those minutes after Knox had a disappointing first outing.
The Knicks will be near full strength, with just Quentin Grimes sitting out tonight.
Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks: Prediction
There was so much positivity after the first game that I am tempted to keep riding the wave and pick Detroit to win this one. It’s a tough matchup for them on the road, as the Knicks have a size advantage in the front court, so the Pistons will once again have to figure out which of Bojan Bogdanovic or Saddiq Bey is going to mark a bigger guy.
Keeping Robinson and Randle off the offensive boards will be key, so we may see a healthy dose of rookie Jalen Duren, who was fantastic in the first game. There are already Knicks’ fans out there lamenting the fact that they didn’t just draft Duren themselves, so a big game out of him would be great.
I like the Pistons to stay close, cover, but come up just short against the veteran Knicks.
New York 108, Detroit 103
