Overreaction #2: Killian Hayes is a bust

There hasn’t been much to like about the start Killian Hayes has had to this season, as he is shooting just 16 percent from the floor, which is bad no matter how early it is.

At some point, Hayes has to show he can score, and we can keep making all the excuses we want about his age and his teammates, but in the end, it is what it is. It’s hard to have a primary ball handler who is absolutely no threat to make a bucket, especially with a second unit that already struggles to score.

However, it is still WAY too early to give up on Hayes this season, as one good game could turn his numbers around and he has yet to play with guys like Burks and Bagley III, who are undoubtedly going to help him.

Hayes is never going to be a number one scoring option, but at least when he is running with a group that includes Burks, Livers, Bagley III and Duren, there will be more than one guy out there who can create space or catch a lob.

As difficult as it is at times, Hayes still requires patience, but that patience is wearing thin quickly. We won’t really know how he’s going to look until we see him with a full complement on the bench, but right now the “Killian is a bust” crowd is starting to look right.

Let’s hope he turns it around and starts looking a little more confident, as right now he just looks broken on the offensive end.
