Detroit Pistons’ stock market: Who is trending up and down?
Detroit Pistons stock market: Players trending down
Saddiq Bey
Bey is currently out with an injured ankle, though I don’t expect he’ll miss too many games after being upgraded to questionable last night.
But even before the injury, Bey was mired in a shooting slump, scoring just nine points per game in his last five. In that time he shot 31 percent overall and just 20 percent from the 3-point line.
Bey is now shooting 29 percent from 3-point range on the fewest attempts of his career (5.5), so we have to wonder what happened to that rookie who shot 38 percent and looked like a knockdown shooter from long range.
Bey is not a great defender, so if he can’t shoot, the Pistons may have some tough decisions to make in the future, as the Detroit offense looked better last night without him.
Marvin Bagley III
MBIII hasn’t been terrible as he tries to work his way back after missing the beginning of the season. But he hasn’t been great either, and this is a time when the Pistons need points and rebounds from their big man.
Bagley III has averaged 10 points and 5.2 rebounds in the five games he’s been back, but the big problem is that his defense has been atrocious and he has been fouling too much, which has limited his impact. He’s been playing around 20 minutes per game as a starter, mostly because of these fouls.
Duren has had problems with fouls as well, but he’s proving more on the boards and on defense, so it may be time to give him a crack at the starting lineup.
Isaiah Livers
I had high hopes for Livers coming into the season, as I thought he could be the 3-and-D glue guy that the Detroit Pistons need on the perimeter.
So far that has not happened, as he is averaging just 5.6 points per game on 34.4 percent shooting from 3-point range. His defense hasn’t been good enough to make up for his lack of shooting, especially lately.
Over his last five games, Livers is averaging just 4.6 points per game and shooting 17 percent from 3-point range. Livers gets 2.6 wide-open 3-point attempts per game on average, so he has to start knocking more of them down.
