Detroit Pistons growth stats: Free Throw Attempts

The Pistons are leading the league in FTA per game – 27.0.

This one is a shocker – the Detroit Pistons are 1st in the NBA in free-throw attempts per game? More than Dallas, more than Philly and Embiid? Yes and yes.

So what does this mean? The Pistons are getting to the rim, making aggressive plays, and are not playing scared. All positives for a young team.

Rookie Jaden Ivey is averaging over four three-throw attempts per game and newcomer Bogdanovic is attempting almost five per game.

Even Isaiah Stewart and Saddiq Bey have improved in this area, both getting to line more than they did last season.

As compared to the last two seasons, the Pistons are taking almost four more free throws per game this year.

Moving forward the next couple years, this number should only get better. As Cade Cunningham continues to mature in his game and get a better whistle, he will be in the top tier of foul drawers in the league. The same can be said of Ivey.

When it comes to free throw percentage, the Pistons drop down to 20th in the league at 77.9 percent. There are points for the taking that are being left on the board.

Free throws attempted is a stat that we can use to monitor progress throughout this season. If the Detroit Pistons continue to play with pace and aggression on offense, it should stay the same or improve.
