I’ve always said that Draymond Green probably should have played for the Detroit Pistons and there was even speculation in the offseason that he could end up in Detroit.

Not only is Green from Michigan, but he does have a bit of that Bad Boy in him as a brash, trash talking player who is not afraid to get in someone’s face.

But over the years, his reputation has somewhat been tarnished, first by kicking LeBron James in the marbles and getting suspended during the Finals, and then this season when he punched his own teammate while his hands were down.

You can debate all day whether Jordan Poole’s hands should have been down after he shoved Green, but the altercation was largely viewed as a sucker punch and Green came off as a bully picking on a smaller guy. You can judge for yourself:

Green was up to more of the same last night, trying to get into Isaiah Stewart‘s head all game and picking up an early technical foul, something that has become his signature over the years.

But Green nearly became a “**** around and find out” meme last night, as the guy he was dealing with wasn’t Jordan Poole with his hands down.

Detroit Pistons: Draymond Green and Isaiah Stewart close to altercation

The Detroit Pistons were winning late in the 4th quarter, with Saddiq Bey hitting a 3-pointer to put them up five with just over a minute to play. Green and Stewart were fighting for position under the rim when Green pulled one of his standard stunts, yanking on Stewart’s jersey, which Beef Stew did not appreciate.

He pulled right back, rag dolling Green, and the two did a little dance while Stewart reminded him that he was not the man to mess around with:

I love that Stewart refuses to be intimidated or put up with Green’s nonsense, and as much as Draymond likes to talk, I don’t think he really wants any part of Beef Stew, who eventually walked away calmly like he was dealing with an unruly child.

Green caught his second technical, was tossed out of the game and the Detroit Pistons went on to win over Golden State for the second time this season. I never thought Detroit was going to have a rivalry with the defending champs, but last night’s close, chippy game might get us there.

Detroit may not be a good team this season, but it’s nice to see them show some heart on the road and let other teams know that they aren’t going to be bullied. Stewart is quickly gaining the reputation of a guy you don’t want to trifle with, and Draymond Green almost found out last night.
