Detroit Pistons: 76ers have right combination for Alec Burks trade
Detroit Pistons: Trading Alec Burks to the Philadelphia 76ers
Thybulle has fallen out of favor in Philadelphia, but he is still only 25-years-old and provides a skill that the Detroit Pistons desperately need, which is above-average wing defense.
But there are definitely some issues. The first is that Burks is clearly the best player in this deal and also has a valuable skillset the Pistons need and is on a team-friendly deal.
Given that Thybulle is a free agent after this season, the Pistons could just wait and sign him then without giving up assets, though Philly would have the right to match any deal. They could potentially keep Burks and have Thybulle anyway.
There would also be the issue of taking on another year of Korkmaz, whose shooting has fallen off a cliff since his best season when he shot over 40 percent from long range. Detroit would be hoping for a renaissance from both of these guys, and the risk may not be worth giving up a sure thing in Burks.
The second-round pick doesn’t really move the needle either way, so this would come down to whether the Pistons thought Thybulle was a good fit, an upgrade and liked their chances of re-signing him in the offseason to a similarly team-friendly deal.
The Detroit Pistons may decide that risk isn’t worth it and just hold onto their veteran, who provides more guaranteed value.
