The Detroit Pistons have consistently been mentioned in trade rumors as the deadline approaches, but so far nothing concrete has materialized.

Detroit has reportedly set the price high for veterans Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks and so far no team seems to be willing to meet their demands.

The Pistons have some leverage here, as they are not eager to trade either of them and will just keep the sharpshooters if a great deal doesn’t present itself, as Detroit would like to be good next year, not get even younger.

But Detroit has also been mentioned as a possible buyer by The Athletic and could swing for the fences on a guy like John Collins, or try to add some cheaper young talent that would fill a need.

The Pistons definitely need perimeter defenders and may be able to snatch one away from the Chicago Bulls.

The Detroit Pistons showing some interest in Ayo Dosunmu of the Chicago Bulls

According to insider Marc Stein (SUBSCRIPTION), the Detroit Pistons are one of a couple of teams inquiring about Ayo Dosunmu from the Bulls.

The 23-year-old perimeter swing man from the University of Illinois is on the final year of his contract and the Bulls could look to move him rather than allow him to walk, though the Bulls would have a chance to match any offer.

Dosunmu, who was a second-round pick and made the All-Rookie team in 2022, is an interesting player, as he is the classic “jack of all trades, master of none” who can make plays, shoot a little and is a plus defender on the perimeter who has the length to guard several positions.

His 3-point shooting has dipped from his rookie campaign, but he is a quality defender, plays hard and would be a great glue guy on a team that needs perimeter defense. The real questions are what it would take to get him from the Bulls and how much it would require to retain him if they did.

Dosunmu’s contract is under $2 million, so getting back equal value would be nearly impossible without including draft picks that the Detroit Pistons do not have unless the Bulls were willing to take a second rounder.

The Pistons would welcome a guy like Dosunmu for the right price, but aren’t going to give up a first-round pick for him (they don’t have one anyway), as he is on an expiring deal, but he may be worth a flyer if all that it costs them is a few second-round picks, as his next deal will still likely be a team-friendly one and he’s the type of guy the Pistons need.
