The Detroit Pistons have been connected to numerous teams in trade rumors as the deadline approaches.

It makes sense for the Pistons to sell, as they have veterans teams want, and have some problems with defense and fit that need to be sorted out.

But it also makes sense for Detroit to hold out for deals that actually make them better, and not just to trade away good players for more future hope.

If the Detroit Pistons do make a trade, it will likely be with one of the contenders, so today we’ll take a stab at coming up with one trade with each of the current playoff teams in the Eastern Conference.

For now, the play-in teams have been excluded, though we have already discussed some possibilities with both the New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks.

These are mostly trades the Detroit Pistons would not make (nor would I) but it gives you some indication of what they are up against when it comes to making big moves at the deadline and why they likely won’t with any teams in the East.

Detroit Pistons: Trade with the Miami Heat

The Heat are an interesting trade deadline team that has been connected to the Detroit Pistons in a possible trade for Saddiq Bey. The Pistons have held their ground on Bojan Bogdanovic and said recently that they don’t plan on trading him, but that could just be posturing. Here is a deal from Miami that could get it done:

The Detroit Pistons aren’t going to trade Bogdanovic unless the offer is overwhelming and while this is not that, it is not far off. Would Miami trade two firsts to get Bogdanovic? Probably not, but if they want to get Bojan and get out from under Duncan Robinson’s contract, they’d have to.

This trade would not necessarily be about the picks themselves, but the Pistons’ ability to trade them, as right now they don’t have a first-round pick they can move in a deal to add talent this offseason. I’d still probably pass on this one, but essentially getting three first-round picks (Jovic is 19-years-old) is about as good as the Pistons could hope for.
