The Detroit Pistons have completed 59 games, so have just 23 left to put a cap on the 2022-223 season.

We have players fighting for rotation spots, fringe guys hoping to get a new deal, and players eligible for contract extensions who are trying to get a bigger payday.

The Pistons also have a coach who could be coaching for his job, as Dwane Casey has just one season left on his contract and Detroit could decide to go in a different direction, especially if the team falls apart even more down the stretch.

With so much up in the air, every player on the Detroit Pistons will want to show out in the final games to secure their spot on the team or showcase themselves for a new job. Here is one quick motto each player should stick to in the final games this season.

Detroit Pistons: Motto for each player in the home stretch

  • Cade Cunningham: Come back angry
  • Jaden Ivey: Commit to defense
  • Bojan Bogdanovic: Stay healthy
  • Jalen Duren: Protect the rim
  • Killian Hayes: Play fearless
  • Marvin Bagley III: Get on the floor
  • Isaiah Stewart: Lead the team
  • Alec Burks: Keep it up
  • Cory Joseph: Mentor the kids
  • James Wiseman: Show us
  • Hamidou Diallo: Outwork everyone
  • Isaiah Livers: Be the glue
  • Rodney McGruder: Push your teammates
  • RJ Hampton: Prove yourself

This final stretch of games will not likely be the deciding factor in many of the decisions that Troy Weaver has to make this offseason, but they will provide more data. Big changes need to occur before next season, whether we are talking player development, additions in the draft, or adding impact players via free agency or trade.

One thing is clear, outside of a few players (Cade, Ivey, Duren, Bogdanovic, Burks) no one’s role, minutes or even job is guaranteed for next season, so we should see some competitive play, especially from the young guys and players like Diallo who are fighting for their next contract.

Next season will be judged far more harshly if the Detroit Pistons are terrible again, so everyone on this team from the GM on down needs to use the rest of this time to improve.
