For the 4th season in a row, the Detroit Pistons will not be going to the playoffs.
It’s not that surprising given their age, and the fact that their best player got hurt just 12 games into the season, but the Pistons were once again one of the first teams eliminated from playoff contention.
With just nine games to go, Detroit has the worst record in the league, and it would take some surprising wins to change that, as there are two games separating them from The Houston Rockets, who have the second-worst record.
The bad news is that it was another disappointing season, but the good news is that it is nearly over and Detroit fans have the most important offseason in recent memory to look forward to.
This should be the offseason when the Detroit Pistons and Troy Weaver start to make good on all of the restoration talk, as they have some good young players on the come up, another high draft pick and money to spend in free agency.
Here are some important upcoming dates.
When does the NBA regular season end for the Detroit Pistons?
The Detroit Pistons will finish their regular season schedule on April 9th in a day game against the Chicago Bulls.
Eight of their last nine games are against teams with something to play for, as all but the Rockets are teams jockeying for playoff position or trying to stay in the play-in tournament. In other words, don’t expect too many more wins.
From there we have just over a month until the NBA Draft Lottery, which takes place on May 16th, and teams can start negotiating with free agents on June 30th.
For fans of the Pistons, the NBA Draft Lottery has been the most important night of the season, and it will be again this year, as they hope to buck the odds and land the #1 pick and the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama.
This season has been a disappointment, but fans should savor these last few games before we enter a very important offseason for the future of the franchise.
