Detroit Pistons: 3 most disappointing players this season
Detroit Pistons: 3 most disappointing players this season
Marvin Bagley III
Troy Weaver gave Marvin Bagley III a guaranteed 3-year deal which looked like a big mistake from the get-go.
Bagley III has looked good at times this season, tantalizing fans with his talent, but it doesn’t much matter when he can’t stay on the floor.
After leaving the game last night, it’s likely he will only play 40 games this season, which is pretty much his norm.
We know Bagley III can get buckets around the rim, but he still can’t do much else, as his outside shooting is abysmal and his defense isn’t much better. I didn’t have much in the way of expectations for MBIII this season, but was hoping he would at least stay healthy for most of it and show that his ceiling isn’t the third center on a bad team.
But after this season, the Detroit Pistons are probably stuck with him and the $25 million left on his deal, as who is going to trade for a guy who can’t stay healthy or adapt to the modern NBA? Weaver already made that mistake and it’s going to be tough to get another GM to follow.
You have to feel for Bagley III on some level, as these injuries aren’t his fault, but he’s illustrated perfectly why he should have never been given a guaranteed deal to begin with, especially when there weren’t other teams willing to make that offer.
We were at least hoping MBIII play his way into being a trade asset, but that hasn’t happened, and now the Detroit Pistons are likely stuck with an ill-fitting, injury-prone backup who is making $12.5 million a season.
