Detroit Pistons: Free agents Troy Weaver should not pursue

Draymond Green

Draymond Green’s future in Golden State may be coming to an end. He has just a player option left on his contract, and it’s been a tumultuous year to say the least. After starting the year with a physical altercation with teammate Jordan Poole, he most recently stomped the chest of Domantas Sabonis. The latter led to the Warriors forward being suspended for a must-win playoff game.

It’s obvious the former Spartan has been a distraction to the defending champions. The same attributes that made him one of the top-tier defenders in the league may also be his demise. Although Troy Weaver has harped on adding defensive minded players he may want to hold off on considering Green as a potential candidate.

His demeanor doesn’t fit well with a rebuilding team and he’s best served playing for a contender. Young teams make mistakes and his aggressive nature could interfere with the learning curve of this young team. Staying the course, remaining true to the process would be best for the front office in this case.

Draymond is accustomed to winning and he may not have the patience it’ll take to allow these young players to grow. With him looking for a large payday this just doesn’t seem to be the time to bring him in. If the Detroit Pistons were in championship or bust mode maybe, but that’s not the situation in the Motor City. Expect Troy Weaver to find a strong defender elsewhere.

Draymond is looking to capitalize off his prior achievements and what he’s accomplished in the league. The Saginaw native will get his money as he should, just not from the Detroit Pistons.
