Detroit Pistons: Free agents Troy Weaver should not pursue

Christian Wood

Christian Wood has seen his stock rise in the NBA since leaving the Detroit Pistons. From barely making a roster, to a starter on a playoff team in just two seasons. He’s projected to be one of the best free agents on the interior and will seek a multi-year deal on the open market.

He’s a versatile forward who can score the basketball, he averaged 16.6 points 7.3 rebounds on 51.5 percent shooting for the Dallas Mavericks. He can score in a variety of ways, making him a legit threat in pick and roll action. That could be a staple of what the Detroit Pistons look to do next season with Cade Cunningham.

Why wouldn’t Wood be a viable option? Defense is the answer.

His defensive effort and lack of maturity were  deciding factors in the front office not re-signing him in his first stint in Detroit. Rightfully so. He’s not the veteran presence you want in a young locker room looking to build a culture.

The Pistons may have opened the door for Wood to blossom. A reunion on paper looks good but the impact it could have on the team could be catastrophic. The Pistons would be better served pursuing a quality four elsewhere. Always remember, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
