The Detroit Pistons must improve in transition

The Detroit Pistons again ranked 27th in transition points, an area the new coaching staff should exploit with Jaden Ivey. Taking advantage of his ability in the open court will relieve some of the burden of scoring in the half court against set defenses. Ivey was tied for 18th in fastbreak possessions as rookie, scoring 1.01 points per possession.

Pushing the pace and creating more fast breaks gives the Pistons the opportunity to increase scoring next year. Jaden Ivey has shown the ability to be highly effective in transition, and expect a boost in productivity in year two. He could emerge as one of the best transition players in the entire league with a emphasis on fast break points from the new regime.

The coach taking the reins will likely use this to their advantage as they learn their players tendencies. Adding some athleticism on the wings will help Ivey improve the transition dynamic of their offense. Young teams like to get out and run, this Detroit Pistons team shouldn’t be a exception.

This is also connected to a better defense, as it’s hard to get fast breaks when you are taking the ball out of the net.
