While the 2022-23 season may not have gone as planned for the Detroit Pistons, like any NBA season there are positive and negatives to take away. The Detroit Pistons had the worst record in the NBA but did have some pleasant surprises during the year. Here’s our surprises and disappointments for the 2022-23 season for the Detroit Pistons.

Detroit Pistons’ pleasant surprise: Jaden Ivey’s Shooting

The big question for the Pistons’ rookie heading into his first year was ability to hit shots from behind the arc. Ivey shot 36 percent from three at Purdue in his sophomore season. The improvement Ivey showed from his rookie to sophomore year was impressive, but analysts were not sure if that would translate to the NBA.

Jaden Ivey shot 34 percent from three on 4.7 attempts per game in his rookie year. Ivey also played 74 out of the 82 games for the Pistons showing his shooting was for real. He also got better as the season went along, hitting just under 36 percent on six attempts per game over the last 25 games of the season.

Ivey does have some improvements that he needs to make for his second season. His turnover percentage was a bit high, but that is to be expected for a rookie guard. I’m sure the Pistons would like him to improve on his mid-range shooting as well, but Ivey was a huge positive for the Pistons this year.
