Detroit Pistons: The 2023 draft pick could force trades

#3 pick, Brandon Miller

If the Detroit Pistons land the #3 pick, the popular consensus is that they will draft Brandon Miller out of Alabama, as he is the exact prototype of what they need.

He’s a big wing who can defend and shoot the 3-ball, and has pretty much everything you are looking for in a modern wing player. He’s one of the clearest fits in the entire draft, and a lot of Pistons’ fans would prefer they draft him over Scoot Henderson with the 2nd pick.

But if the Pistons do draft Miller, what happens to Bojan Bogdanovic? Bogdanovic had one of his best seasons as a scorer last year, but he is one of the worst wing defenders in the league. It doesn’t seem like the Pistons are going to draft Miller just to bring him off the bench, so Bogdanovic could be pushed to the four or to the bench himself.

Having more than one good wing player is a problem the Detroit Pistons wish they had, but would Bogdanovic be happy coming off the bench? Is he big and strong enough to handle the four?

If the Pistons were to get Miller, trading Bogdanovic for a power forward does make some sense, as Detroit doesn’t really have one on the roster unless you count Marvin Bagley III, which I don’t.

A lineup with both Miller and Bogdanovic does have some appeal, but with visions of the 1990’s dancing in his head, Troy Weaver may decide that he wants two bigs in the starting five, which would push Bogdanovic to the bench or maybe even prompt a trade.

If the Detroit Pistons draft in the top-3, they will have to make some roster decisions this summer and we could see some players hit the trade market.
