The Detroit Pistons headed into the offseason with a top-5 pick, cap space and dreams of building a competitive roster.

With the NBA Draft Lottery less than two weeks away, we’ll soon know whether the first part of the dream offseason becomes reality.

Regardless of which pick the Pistons get in the 2023 NBA Draft, they will look to use their cap space to add free agents or to make trades to complement the roster.

There are some interesting free agents, guys like former Piston Jerami Grant or Cameron Johnson from the Nets, but the group isn’t deep with quality wing players and the Pistons don’t want to reach for the wrong guy.

Dillon Brooks

I already wrote about why the Detroit Pistons should stay far away from Brooks, so I won’t belabor the point.

But I can’t remember a player in recent memory dropping in free-agent value like Brooks. Mid-season he looked like a guy who would probably get a bag in free agency from someone, but after the “under any circumstances” comment by the Grizzlies, he may not have nearly as many suitors.

He flopped in the playoffs and was a big distraction along the way, not things the Pistons need on their young roster.
