Detroit Pistons: The 3 riskiest NBA free agents on the market this summer

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is not going to be coming to the Detroit Pistons this summer for many reasons, but I do think his free agency is going to be interesting.

Everyone knows he’s supremely talented, but controversy also seems to follow him and he’s looking for a wad of money in what could be his last max deal. He reportedly was looking nearly $200 million in a four-year extension from the Mavericks, who may be the only team bidding on the 31-year-old.

Obviously the Detroit Pistons are not in a position to be offering another guard a huge contract like that, even though he would be fun to watch as a shooting guard next to Cade Cunningham.

Irving is still an elite scorer, but he’s not a fit on the Pistons’ timeline, wouldn’t help their biggest need and would bring way too many distractions to a young team.

It’s not going to happen anyway, but it will be interesting to see how Irving’s free agency plays out and whether another suitor or two forces the Mavericks into a massive contract offer.
