Detroit Pistons: Jaylen Brown is probably a pipe dream, unless…

Jaylen Brown goes to free agency

Brown could just play out the final year of his contract with the Boston Celtics and become an unrestricted free agent.

It’s hard to imagine the Celtics wanting this, as his future with the team would be a storyline that would follow them all next season. But if it did happen, the Pistons could bid for Brown’s services in free agency like any other team, and might have some appeal as an up and coming team with a solid young foundation in place.

If the Celtics want to keep him, they’ll just find a way to make a deal, but have to be comfortable paying Brown and Tatum nearly $600 combined over the course of their contracts. They may be, as the two of them give a foundation to build around that almost guarantees success.

But if the Celtics feel like they can allocate that money more efficiently by spreading it around, they could look to deal Brown this offseason or at next year’s trade deadline. It may depend on how things finish in the playoffs, as failing to make the Eastern Conference Finals may make the Celtics more inclined to make a move.

If they did decide to trade Brown in the offseason, the Detroit Pistons might be interested, but putting together a trade package would be tough.
