With the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama on the line, it’s not hyperbole to say that the course of the Detroit Pistons franchise could be changed over the next few days.

The NBA Draft Lottery is next week and Detroit has maximum odds to land the number one pick. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that those odds are just 14 percent, and that they have a 47.9 percent chance of getting the 5th pick. Fans are preparing for the worst, but holding out hope for the miracle.

But it has happened before, recently in fact, as Detroit had the exact same odds in 2021 when they won the draft lottery and the chance to draft Cade Cunningham.

The Pistons are hoping it happens again, and taking all available steps to increase their chances.

Detroit Pistons bring back Ben Wallace for the NBA Draft Lottery

In 2021, the Detroit Pistons were represented by Ben Wallace and landed the number one pick, so why not try to run it back?

Big Ben brought the good luck with Cade and fans are praying to the lottery gods that is happens again, as adding Victor Wembanyama would instantly make Detroit one of the most interesting and promising teams in the NBA.

One of my favorite parts of the NBA Draft Lottery is the fan reactions, and Pistons’ fans did not disappoint last time. It feels like there is even more on the line this time, as the drop-off from #1 to everyone else is pretty steep, at least in the hype and hope it would bring to a team.

Ben Wallace will be back at the lottery and fans will be biting their nails as every pick from five down is slowly revealed. Every time Detroit’s name isn’t called the dream offseason will be closer.
